FPL Gameweek 15 Tips: Best Liverpool Assets To Target
Mohamed Salah is the most owned player in FPL and likely a permanent captain pick over the busy festive period given his incredible output in this campaign. So which other options should we be considering adding from Liverpool to capitalise on the team at the top of the Premier League?
Cody Gakpo (£7.1m)
Winger Cody Gakpo is listed as a forward in the game and is a clear favourite under Arne Slot, starting four of their last five Premier League games. In that time he’s racked up two goals and is preferred to Luis Diaz, who has been more regularly used in the Champions League and League Cup.
Liverpool do have some midweek rounds of fixtures to negotiate in this period, and so it’s likely that Gakpo could be benched for one game in this spell. He ranks among the top ten players for shots (14) and shots in the box (11) in the last five gameweeks.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (£6.9m)
Trent Alexander-Arnold finally lived up to his underlying numbers last time out, providing two assists from the bench in the 3-3 draw with Newcastle United, both of those coming for Mohamed Salah. Hopefully he’s now had his rest, having returned from injury against Manchester City last weekend.
Alexander-Arnold has produced double digits for goal involvements in five of his last six seasons, with three for this campaign. He ranks second among defenders for key passes (25) and big chances created (7), with his expected assist metric of 3.62 now more closely aligning to his output.
Virgil Van Dijk (£6.4m)
Liverpool carry the best clean sheet potential of any side in the Premier League right now, despite just conceding three goals away at Newcastle United, their worst defensive performance of the season. They lead the way for clean sheets with seven, conceding just 11 goals in 14 games, which is the league lowest.
Centre-back and captain Virgil van Dijk remains an appealing fantasy candidate given that he’s played every single minute of Premier League action this season and he’s such an aerial threat from dead ball situations. He’s had three big chances on goal in this campaign, scoring once.
Joe Gomez (£4.8m)
While the majority of Liverpool’s defenders come in at a hefty price tag, Joe Gomez is under five million and set to be a regular in this backline for the festive period. He’s deputising for Ibrahima Konate who is set to miss the whole month of action with a knee injury.
Gomez is highly versatile, able to play as a centre-back or full-back in this Liverpool defence. There’s also hope that goalkeeper Alisson Becker will return from a hamstring injury in the coming weeks to improve their defence, having kept four clean sheets in six this season.
