FPL Gameweek 14 Tips: Best Alexander Isak Replacements
Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak picked up a hip injury in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday and is now a doubt for the visit of Liverpool on Wednesday evening. So who are the best replacements for the Swedish forward going into the midweek round of games?
Nicolas Jackson vs Southampton (A)
Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson looks to be one of the most transferred in players for FPL Gameweek 14 and it’s hard to argue with that when you consider both his form and the fixture. Jackson comes into this game with four goals and one assist in his last six, plus seven attacking returns in away games.
In this spell, his underlying numbers are equally compelling. He sits second among forwards for shots on target (9) and has scored his four goals from four big chances, showing a marked improvement in his finishing this season. He ranks second among forwards for key passes in this spell with seven.
Chelsea come into this game unbeaten in their last five, while opponents Southampton are struggling, with just one win in the same period, conceding eight. Jackson’s 12 point haul in the trip to Leicester City in Gameweek 12 bodes well for this one, with three double digit hauls on the road this season.
Ollie Watkins vs Brentford (H)
It’s been a challenging few weeks for Aston Villa, where they’ve been defeated on the road to Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea. However, their fixtures finally turn for the better this midweek, with Brentford the visitors to Villa Park, followed up by the visit of bottom of the table Southampton at the weekend.
Ollie Watkins has been their star player once again this season, with a sound eight goal involvements to date. However, he’s only managed two goals in the last six gameweeks. Four of his six goals in this campaign have come at home and so you’d expect him to be threatening the scoresheet.
Watkins has had six big chances on goal in the last four gameweeks, massively underperforming his xG of 2.5 in this period. Opponents Brentford have kept just one clean sheet in this campaign, conceding five goals in the last four gameweeks. Watkins scored home and away against them last season.
Matheus Cunha vs Everton (A)
Matheus Cunha was the most popular FPL purchase going into Gameweek 13 but disappointed his one million new owners by failing to register a goal involvement in the 4-2 defeat against Bournemouth. He has scored in four consecutive away trips, which is an enviable record ahead of the trip to Goodison Park.
Cunha remains a player in great form, with three goals and three assists in the last four gameweeks. In this time he’s had ten shots on goal plus created eight chances for his team-mates, with four of those being classified as big chances created. He certainly has the routes to points since he’s on penalties too.
He’s a popular purchase once again this week, with a trip to West Ham for Gameweek 15 and then ties against promoted Ipswich Town and Leicester City. Opponents Everton haven’t won in the last five gameweeks. Cunha has one goal and one assist from two starts against them in the league.
