FPL Captaincy GW16 Tips: The FPL General Reveals Their Picks

The FPL General is back for another round of FPL captaincy GW16 tips. This week, five potential skippers have been identified.

Selecting a captain for your Fantasy Premier League team is often a head scratcher, and the skipper selection usually influences which premium options you opt to have within your squad.

The likes of Mo Salah, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka and Erling Haaland are usually given the armband on any given gameweek.

Whether you’re chasing points or solidifying your lead, here are the FPL General’s rankings to help you make the crucial decision.

FPL Captaincy GW16 Tips

Ranking the Best Captains

It’s another difficult captaincy decision with most of the big hitters having favourable home fixtures this weekend. In theory, you shouldn’t really go wrong with any of the choices below.

1. Cole Palmer – (CHELSEA Vs Brentford)

Cole Palmer is averaging 13-points-per-game over the last three gameweeks. Only the trio of promoted teams have worse xGC (expected goals conceded) than Brentford in away matches this season.

The Chelsea star has been a revelation since signing for the Blues in 2023. Since the start of last season, nobody has more Premier League goal involvements (50).

2. Mo Salah – (LIVERPOOL Vs Fulham)

The ‘safe’ choice given Mo Salah’s consistent form. He’s likely to be the most popular captain this weekend due to being the top points scorer in the game (151). Fulham however rank 6th in the league for xGC.

It’s an intriguing looking fixture at Anfield. The Reds are unbeaten in six games across all competitions against the Cottagers and Salah has netted four times against the Londoners.

3. Alexander Isak – (NEWCASTLE Vs Leicester)

On paper, this looks like one of the best FPL captaincy GW16 tips. Alexander Isak is looking very sharp after recent goals against Liverpool and Brentford.

The super Swede is one of the Premier League’s best strikers and will be keen to blunt Leicester City’s mini revival under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

4. Bukayo Saka – (ARSENAL Vs Everton)

Bukayo Saka has enjoyed a stellar season so far and he’ll be chomping at the bit to get stuck into the Toffees at the Emirates on Saturday.

However, Sean Dyche teams know how to defend which always makes me reluctant to captain a player against them. The Merseysiders rank 7th for xGC.

5. Erling Haaland – (MANCHESTER CITY Vs Manchester United)

After scoring just three times in his last ten Premier League appearances, Erling Haaland is still worth some consideration. Especially with neighbours Manchester United coming to the Etihad.

Haaland has netted six times in this fixture in England’s elite. Four of those goals have come on home soil but his recent performances leave plenty to ponder.
