FPL Banger Tips GW22: Cole Palmer & Amad Diallo Are Must Buys

The FPL Banger boys provide their best tips for GW22, including a Manchester United star and captaining Chelsea’s talisman, Cole Palmer.

Welcome to a new series for the 2024/25 season, provided by Siva & Sam, the twisted minds behind the FPL Banger Podcast.

Last week wasn’t too shabby, with Alexander Isak (C), Martin Dubravka, Lewis Hall, Jean-Philippe Mateta and hat-trick hero Amad Diallo all returning.

Here’s our picks for GW22.

FPL Banger FPL GW22 Tips

Best Captain: Cole Palmer (£11.4m)

Fixture: Wolves (H)

Chelsea’s title run feels like a lifetime ago, with the Blues now finding themselves locked in a battle just to stay in the top 4.

However one constant positive for Chelsea has been Cole Palmer, with three 10 pointers in his last 4 games. Palmer’s creativity is especially useful for FPL, with him racking up maximum bonus points in each of those 10 pointers despite only scoring 1 goal.

Wolves meanwhile have reverted to type after a brief new manager bounce – Vitor Pereira’s side have conceded 8 goals in their last 3 games, which is the kind of thing that happens when your defence features Jose Sa and Matt Doherty in the year 2025.

Top Picks

Matz Sels (£5m) & Ola Aina (£5.3m)

Fixture: Southampton (H)

You already know where this is going. Most clean sheets in the league, top scoring goalkeeper and top scoring defender in FPL.

Nottingham Forest are the real deal, which is highlighted by their position in the Premier League table, so if you need to make a defensive transfer this week, it has to be one of these guys.

Amad Diallo (£5.5m)

Fixture: Brighton (H)

“He has to rest, eat good food, and be ready for Sunday against Brighton. We need him again. He did a great job.”

That’s Ruben Amorim speaking about Amad Diallo following his epic 12 minute game-winning hat-trick against Southampton on Thursday night.

Before anyone says that this is recency bias or hype – we had Amad Diallo in this slot last week. That’s because we remembered that he was playing Southampton and thankfully after about 82 minutes, Manchester United also remembered that they were playing Southampton.

Brighton certainly presents a more difficult challenge but the Seagulls do concede goals, with 2 of their 3 clean sheets this season coming against Ipswich. – meaning Amad will fancy his chances of being the hero again.

Chris Wood (£6.9m)

Fixture: Southampton (H)

At the risk of repeating ourselves from last week, Southampton are basically headed back to the Championship, with their 6 points and negative 34 goal difference the worst ever record after 21 games in the Premier League.

The Saints played decently for 80 minutes against Man United on Thursday but ultimately a lack of quality in both boxes told for Southampton, capped off by Taylor Harwood-Bellis gifting Amad his 3rd goal.

Someone who doesn’t lack quality in the box is Chris Wood, who scored his 13th goal this season against Liverpool in GW21.

There seems to be an FPL narrative right now that you need to save as many free transfers as possible for Double Gameweek 24.

As someone who transferred in Mbeumo for GW20 (19 points) and Amad for GW21 (20 points), I don’t subscribe to that theory.

If you miss out on a Chris Wood haul against possibly the worst ever team in the Premier League just because you were saving a future transfer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, you really only have yourself to blame.
