The FPL Banger boys are back with their Fantasy Premier League tips for Gameweek 20, outlining their top picks and best captain selection.
Welcome to a new series for the 2024/25 season, provided by Siva & Sam, the twisted minds behind the FPL Banger Podcast.
We entered 2025 with 99 points and a clean sweep of picks – Salah (C), Sels, Aina, Gordon and Isak all returned. If you listened, congratulations. Let’s see if we can keep it up in Gameweek 20.
BEST CAPTAIN
Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) – Fixture: Manchester United (H)
Here’s an FPL top tip. Pick players who play against Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim seems like a nice guy, but the audacity to play a 2-man midfield pivot comprising senior citizens Casemiro and Christian Eriksen against Newcastle last week was madness, and Amorim realised as much after United conceded twice in the first 20 minutes and Amorim was forced to sub Joshua Zirkzee off to a chorus of boos for Kobbie Mainoo.
Next up is a rampant Liverpool side, and if they didn’t already have a double gameweek in the future, I’d seriously be considering activating the triple captain chip. Mohamed Salah was my skipper last week (sorry Cole Palmer) and he will be this week too. And probably for the next 18 weeks.
TOP PICKS
Matz Sels (£4.9m) & Ola Aina (£5.2m) – Fixture: Wolves (A)
Forest just keep doing it. With their 2-0 win at Everton last week, they made it 8 clean sheets in 19 games this season, a record matched only by the league leaders, Liverpool.
Matz Sels and Ola Aina are the top scoring goalkeeper and defender, respectively, in FPL, and I continue to feel like a complete moron that I haven’t owned either all season.
With Matheus Cunha suspended, the Wolves attack should pose little danger for Nuno’s side. I fully expect Forest to make it 9 cleans in 20 games.
Luis Diaz (£7.6m) – Fixture: Manchester United (H)
Unlike many other FPL managers, I have not owned Luis Diaz all season. The constant (and in my view, justified) risk of rotation was just too off putting for me. However with their qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League all but secured and a few Carabao and FA Cup matches on the horizon, I expect Slot to give Diaz more minutes in the league for now.
The Colombian has been playing up front recently and looks to be adapting to the role very well. As we’ve mentioned last week, Manchester United are a hot mess, and I’m prepared to risk an occasional benching for what might be a massive haul in GW20.
Alexander Isak (£9.2m) – Fixture: Tottenham (A)
Is it cheating to pick Alexander Isak in this slot every week? Maybe, but it’s who we are mate.
There are still a few FPL managers out there who do not own the best Scandinavian forward in the Premier League. Once again the FPL FDR colour scheme has fooled them – Spurs are the greenest fixture (apart from Man United) right now.
A backline of Fraser Forster, Djed Spence, Archie Gray, Radu Dragusin, Pedro Porro and a manager who just will not change his ways is the perfect recipe for another Isak haul.
