Fox wins canoe World Cup round in build-up to Olympics

Overcoming nerves and scratchy form, Jessica Fox has shown her Paris Olympics campaign is on target with a World Cup canoe win in Germany.

Fox won the C1 event in Augsburg after barely scraping into the final, a day after finishing second-last in the K1 final.

The Tokyo Olympics C1 gold medallist, one of Australia's top medal prospects for Paris, won at the first World Cup of the season by eight seconds.

"I'm just so relieved to finally put down a good run," Fox said.

"It's been a tough weekend, it's been wet and harsh. I've been trying to manage the nerves that come with the first World Cup of the season, but now I'm thrilled to be back on the podium and to be on the top step.

"It was a tough course, Augsburg is always challenging, so I just really had to keep it together."

Fellow Paris Olympian Tristan Carter finished sixth in the men's C1 final.

The World Cup round ends with the kayak cross, which will make its Olympic debut in Paris.

Fox, her sister Noemie, Carter, Kaylen Bassett, Tim Anderson and Lucien Delfour will compete in the kayak cross at Augsburg.
