Colin Cowherd has made a career of publicly calling out athletes and he continued to do just that after the topic of Russell Wilson was in his sights amid the quarterback’s disappointing start to the 2023 NFL season.
The Fox Sports personality laid into Wilson, calling him washed up after starting the season 0–2 with the Broncos.
“Russell Wilson is 34 and he looks like he’s 39,” he said on The Colin Cowherd Podcast. “He does not have the juice he had previously. I don’t know if some of it’s confidence, emotional, no major surgeries, [he’s] 34, he plays much, much older than his age.”

Wilson has been on a steep decline ever since landing in Denver via trade with the Seahawks in 2022. In his first year with the Broncos, the team finished 5–12 and he threw for 3,524 yards and a career-low 16 touchdowns in 15 appearances. His first campaign in Denver also saw first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett fired, paving the way for Sean Payton to come out of retirement.
But it just seems like more of the same from this struggling team. They’re coming off a Week 2 loss to the Commanders where Wilson completed 18-of-32 passes for 308 yards in the 35–33 loss. Although Wilson looked good in the box score, Cowherd didn’t let him off the hook and he seems befuddled as to why the nine-time Pro Bowler has regressed so much.
“Never seen a quarterback have it, lose it without a major injury pre-35 years old,” he continued. “Never seen it.”
