A fox cub escaped death when it was rescued by the RSPCA after it spent over three weeks roaming with rubbish wrapped around its neck. The baby fox was left unable to eat and drink for over three weeks after getting its head stuck in a piece of discarded litter.
Locals spotted the struggling fox roaming with a large square object attached to its head before filing their concerns to the RSPCA. Animal rescue officers recovered the lethargic cub and moved him to a rehabilitation centre, but the RSPCA have slammed litter bugs saying 'it wouldn't have been in this situation if someone had disposed of their litter correctly'.
The animal charity says it has received over 10,000 calls related to incidents involving animals and litter in just three years. RSPCA animal rescue officer Cara Gibbon said: “It is so sad and heartbreaking to know that this poor fox wouldn’t have been in this situation if someone had disposed of their litter correctly in the first place.
“Thankfully we were able to safely catch him and remove the litter and we transferred him to a wildlife centre where he was checked over. He was emaciated and dehydrated, likely because he hasn’t been able to eat or drink properly for three weeks - but thankfully he’s now getting the treatment he needs.”
