Fourth arrest made in Thomas Dooley graveyard stabbing probe as gardaí assisted by special investigators

Gardai have arrested a fourth man in relation to the stabbing of a man in a Kerry graveyard earlier this month.

The alleged murder of father-of-seven Thomas Dooley, 43, is said to have taken place following the burial of young Killarney mother-of-five Bridget O’Brien.

The incident on October 5 saw a Garda probe launched.

Three arrests had already been made before Wednesday morning, but with the aid of specialist investigators, gardaí cuffed a fourth.

A garda spokesperson explained in a statement: "Gardaí investigating a fatal assault in Tralee, Co Kerry on Wednesday, 5th October 2022, arrested a man (30s) earlier today.

"The man, aged in his 30s, is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tralee Garda Station.

"This is the fourth arrest made as part of this investigation.

"The local investigation team has been assisted by specialist investigators attached to the GNBCI."

Patrick Dooley, 35, of Arbutus Grove, Killarney, is charged with the murder of his older brother at a Tralee graveyard on October 5.

Thomas Dooley, 41, of Carrigrohane Road, Cork, a cousin and namesake of Mr Dooley, has also been charged with murder at the same location and on the same date.

Tommy, 43, from Ballyspillane in Killarney, died from multiple injuries sustained at New Rath Cemetery in Tralee

Mr Dooley’s wife Siobhan, who suffered injuries during the same incident, received emergency medical treatment at University Hospital Kerry before being discharged the following day.

Now, Tommy’s devastated family have appealed for anyone who attended the funeral of the late Bridget O’Brien and witnessed the stabbing of Mr Dooley to come forward.

In a post on social media one relative asked for anyone who had seen anything and not yet come forward to contact Tralee Garda Station anonymously.

The relative wrote: "We know people had to see something, we would really appreciate it and can people please share this message,” and ended it with “RIP Tom Dooley.”
