Four things we spotted as Manchester United players train ahead of Middlesbrough FA Cup tie

Manchester United have been back to work this week as they gear up for their return to action following the winter break.

The majority of the Reds have been back at Carrington this week as Ralf Rangnick has overseen preparations for Friday’s FA Cup fourth tie against Middlesbrough.

The interim boss may well use the clash as an opportunity to bring some of his injured players back into the fold, and some of them were in action in the latest round of pictures to come from United’s training ground.

Here are four things we spotted from United’s latest training pictures.

Shaw and Wan-Bissaka return

It’s been a frustrating start to the year for Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the pair having missed most of January through injury and illness.

In their absence, Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot have impressed, bringing into question whether the English duo would regain their places at full-back.

Both Shaw and Wan-Bissaka featured as United’s players geared up for tomorrow’s game, and they could both feature against Middlesbrough as they look to win back their places in the side.

Pogba in full flight

Paul Pogba’s return has been much quicker than expected – the midfielder had originally been anticipated to be out for another few weeks in his recovery from a thigh injury.

Instead, he was back in training before the international break, and now looks like he will be in contention for a return to the side on Friday.

And there were more encouraging signs for the Frenchman in training, with Pogba seen running full pelt alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, underlining his return to fitness.

Sancho’s back

Jadon Sancho missed both of the wins over Brentford and West Ham before the international break due to personal reasons following a family bereavement.

He did though make his return to training just before the international break, and the former Borussia Dortmund man will likely be back in contention tomorrow night.

Sancho is still looking to hit his usual top form at United, and could do with a good performance to try and earn himself a regular spot again.

Jones in line to start?

Phil Jones features fairly prominently in the latest batch of pictures, and he may well be in consideration for Friday’s cup clash.

The defender hasn’t featured since making a surprise return to the line-up against Wolves at the start of the year, and turned down a loan move to Bordeaux in late January.

Tomorrow could be his chance to send another reminder to Rangnick that he’s still vying for a place in the side this season.
