Ranking at number 84, Ondine came in at the highest out of the Edinburgh selection, which they also picked up in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Last year they were awarded the coveted ‘Best Restaurant in Scotland’.
The accolade is a direct result of votes from more than 200 industry experts throughout the UK, from top chefs, restaurateurs, food writer, critics, and other food experts. Organised by industry leading title Restaurant Magazine, the awards launched in 2007 and celebrate the brilliance, vibrancy, and the best of the UK dining scene.
Chef and Owner of Ondine Oyster and Grill Roy Brett commented on their award success: “We as a team are absolutely delighted to be awarded as one of the Top 100 restaurants throughout the UK. It is such an honour to receive the prestigious accolade from the industry itself, which we have been awarded for the last few years running. A huge congratulations also to Inver for being awarded ‘Best Restaurant in Scotland’, very well deserved. We as a whole team work so incredibly hard together, and we will always strive to keep doing what we do best. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Ondine Oyster and Grill.”
Ranked at 97, Palmerston in the West End, was celebrated for its 'gutsy, calorie-ignoring dishes' as well as its wallet friendly prices with a three course lunch menu coming in at just £20.
The national awards also praised that The Palmerston is also one of only a handful of restaurants on the list that are open for breakfast.
The Little Chartroom, who is celebrating its fourth birthday, also bagged a spot in the top 100 list in 90th place. The awards highlights: "a simple, seasonal menu of British-style dishes with a French accent. Menus are concise, with only three options available per course, but Hall-McCarron's cooking shows great confidence and imagination."
Posting on Instagram, The Little Chartroom added: "Number 90 @nationalrestaurantawards top 100 last night!! We’re super chuffed to be in the list again. Thanks to the whole team for all their hard work. Thanks @nationalrestaurantawards for an incredible party.
"It’s our fourth birthday today so a double celebration!!
"Well done to everyone on the list, massive congrats @inverrestaurant on the best restaurant in Scotland award, and @ynyshirrestaurant on your number one spot"
Meanwhile Aizle on Kimpton Square was celebrated by the awards and sits at 92 on the list.
The fine dining restaurant was praised for being "thoughtful and ambitious" and it was noted how guests are presented with a list of ingredients from the recent harvest, rather than a menu. They are then asked to cross off any they don’t like.
The awards add: "From there, Ralston and his kitchen team create a tasting menu of arresting dishes that neatly play with your expectations.
"Ralston notably shifted Aizle to a four-day working week in 2018 after struggling with long working hours, and while the restaurant has since moved to a five-day operation, all staff are contracted to only work for four days. It’s another example of his considered approach as both chef and restaurateur, which marks Aizle out as place very much worthy of your time."
Aizle didn't take long to post to social media. On Instagram they said: "So excited to be with the team in London this week and overjoyed to have been included in the #nationalrestaurantawards for the first time and make #92 among the best in the UK hospitality scene. A privilege to be amongst such talent."
