Four supermarkets hike cost of same essential AGAIN as price rises continue

For months now our bills have only been going one way and that's up. If there's one place we notice it more it's at the supermarket and our weekly price comparison has been keeping track of the cost of basics like milk and bread since March.

We've seen prices rocket, we've seen the yo-yo effect of Aldi Price Match and for a short time it seemed prices were finally settling when we had little change at all.

But it seems we're not there yet and out of six supermarkets this week, the price of our basket of shopping has risen at all but one. Only Morrisons stayed the same, but as it's still the most expensive of all, at £12.02, there's little reason to celebrate.

Four of the six supermarkets have this week hiked the price of butter again. We're not talking a couple of pence either.

At Sainsbury's, Tesco and Aldi, it's gone from £1.75 to £1.99, while at Asda it's gone from £1.75 to £2.

Only Lidl has kept its product at £1.72 and Morrisons Savers butter was already a rather pricey £1.95, but where Aldi leads Lidl can follow.

Butter isn't the only thing to rise either. Tesco has followed the others by increasing its mince from £1.69 to £1.79 and Aldi has put its budget beans up from 22p a tin to 26p.

Lidl's cheapest beans, at 22p, are often sold out (Manchester Family / MEN)

It's Lidl that has the most price rises this week though. While also putting its mince up to £1.79, its teabags have gone from 99p to £1.09 and its chicken breasts have gone from £2.09 to £2.15.

Yet despite the rises, it's Lidl that still takes the cheapest spot at £10.17 for the full basket. Aldi remains the second cheapest at £10.68, followed by Asda at £10.79, Tesco at £10.81 and Sainsbury's at £10.98.

The full shopping list for our price comparison is made up of an 800g loaf of bread, two pints of milk, 200g of coffee, 160 teabags, a 250g block of butter, a tin of beans, 300g of chicken and 500g of mince.
