Four Southampton players to miss crucial Nottingham Forest clash as injury update given

Southampton will welcome back one player from injury against Nottingham Forest on Monday night, but four will remain on the sidelines with injury.

Forest host the Saints at the City Ground in the 8pm kick off, with Forest knowing what they may have to do in order to climb out of the relegation zone, depending on how other results go this weekend. The Reds are currently in 18th place on goal difference, level on points with Leeds United and Leicester City, who are 17th 16th respectively.

Southampton, meanwhile, remain at the bottom of the table, six points adrift of Forest. A win would see the Saints cut that deficit to just three points as they look to pull off an unlikely escape from relegation.

Ahead of the match, manager Ruben Selles has given the latest injury update on his squad, confirming that striker Paul Onuachu will be available after missing last weekend’s game with a knock. The forward has featured nine times in the Premier League since signing in the January transfer window, but is yet to find the net for his new club.

“Paul Onuachu is fit,” Selles said in his pre-match press conference. “He came back to training this week and if nothing happens between now and Monday, he will be selectable for the game."

It is however not so good news for Southampton on other players, with Selles confirming that they are a doubt for the remainder of the season. "Mohammed Salisu is still out of the squad together with Tino Livramento, Juan Larios and Romain Perraud," he said.

“They will not be involved in this game as it's still a long-term injury for them. We don't know if we'll see them until the end of the season.

"Romain had surgery yesterday and it went well. It was in Cardiff and he's back today in the afternoon. The surgery went OK but he'll be out for the rest of the season and he will be available probably at the beginning of pre-season for next season."
