Four ewes are believed to have been fatally shot and four other sheep have died following what appears to be a dog attack in the Coelbren area.
Dyfed Powys Police is appealing to anyone who has more information to help with the investigation into this incident. A picture issued by police shows the bloody wool surrounding the wound of one of the sheep involved.
Responding to the incident, NFU Cymru's Rob Lewis said: “While the vast majority of dog owners believe that their dog is docile and would not harm sheep or other animals, dogs can cause distress, injury and death to livestock if they are not walked responsibly, particularly when that dog is not familiar with livestock.

“Many people take great joy in walking their dog in Wales’ beautiful countryside and we welcome responsible dog walking on our footpaths and bridleways. However, I plead with dog owners to please keep their dog on a lead around livestock to avoid distressing incidents like the number of them that have been reported in recent days.
“Sheep farming is more than a livelihood for farming families. We have responsibility for the welfare of every animal we have on the farm. To see livestock maimed and killed is a very upsetting experience for the farmers involved. It is something no farmer should have to go through. Please act responsibly and keep your dog on a lead when livestock are nearby.”
