On Wednesday night, four San Antonio police officers were shot while responding to a 'suicide in progress' call. The incident occurred near an apartment complex, where a heavy police presence was reported as authorities attempted to detain the suspect.
San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus confirmed that none of the officers' injuries were believed to be life-threatening. The suspect, described as a man in his 40s, was the subject of the original call to police, which came from a family member.
Over an hour after the shooting, Chief McManus stated that the SWAT team was setting up in the Stone Oak neighborhood, and efforts to apprehend the suspect were ongoing. 'We are working on a plan right now to try and get the shooter out,' he said.
The four officers, each with between four and eight years of experience, were swiftly transported to a hospital for treatment. Chief McManus provided details on the injuries sustained, noting that one officer was shot in the lower extremities, while another was shot in the upper torso. The injuries of the remaining officers were not specified.
