Four people trapped after lift malfunctions at Merseyrail station

Four people were trapped after a lift malfunctioned at a Merseyrail station.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called to Waterloo Station at 1.49pm today (January 24) after four people became trapped in the lift, which was stuck between floors. One fire engine attended and crews had to access the motor room to manually raise the lift to the first floor.

Once the lift reached the first floor, those trapped in the lift were released. They were unharmed but the lift is now out of service. Fire crews were able to leave the station at 2.26pm.

A Merseyside Fire & Rescue spokesperson told the ECHO: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident at Waterloo railway station earlier this afternoon, Tuesday, 24 January. Crews were alerted at 13.49 and on scene at 13.56. One fire engine attended.

"On arrival, crews found four people trapped in the lift. Crews accessed the lift motor room and manually raised the lift to the first floor. The four people were released from the lift unharmed and with no injuries. Crews left the scene at 14.26."
