Four pensioners were rushed to hospital after being involved in a "terrifying" two-car crash in Ayrshire. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, raced to the scene on the A78 at Skelmorlie at around 2pm on Saturday, October 29.
Police closed the road while a number of first response vehicles, including fire engines, were spotted surveying the crash site.
Cops have confirmed that a man and woman, aged 74 and 69, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Two additional women, aged 72 and 75, were rushed by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. Their current conditions are not known.
Speaking to the Record, one local spoke of passing the scene and said there was an "alarming" amount of emergency vehicles attending the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2pm on Saturday, October 29, police were called to a report of a road crash involving two cars on the A78 at Skelmorlie.
“A 74-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman were taken by Ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Two women, aged 72 and 75, were taken by Ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
