Four Man Utd stars miss training ahead of Europa League clash as two youngsters called up

Manchester United could be forced to take on FC Sheriff without four first team stars with several players missing training ahead of the Europa League clash.

United go into the game in Moldova off the back of a defeat at home to Real Sociedad in their European opener. Their last two away games have both ended in victory, though, with Leicester City and Southampton seen off in the Premier League.

Anthony Martial was already expected to miss out through injury, while Donny van de Beek, Marcus Rashford and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all missed an open training session ahead of the game. Left-back Luke Shaw was involved, though, while manager Erik ten Hag will also be able to call upon some academy talents for the group game.

The Manchester Evening News reports that young defender Marc Jurado was training with the first team again. The 18-year-old, who joined from Barcelona in 2020, has yet to make his senior bow but played for United's under-21 side against Carlisle United in the EFL Trophy in August.

Young striker Charlie McNeill was also involved in the session. The teenager made his senior debut against Real Sociedad, coming off the bench for the final few minutes.

A number of academy stars have been included on United's 'B' list for the Europa League, which is reserved for players born on or after January 1, 2001 who have been at the club for two or three years or more. These include Anthony Elanga, who started the last European game, and unused substitutes Tyler Fredricson and Zidane Iqbal.

Several senior stars were also involved in the last European game as United aim to win the competition for the first time since 2017. Cristiano Ronaldo was handed a rare start up front, while summer signings Antony and Casemiro were also involved.

McNeill, meanwhile, will be pushing for further involvement after his brief run-out at Old Trafford last week. The striker scored 17 times for United's various age group teams last season, including three goals in five UEFA Youth League appearances.

"An honour to make my professional debut for Manchester United," the 19-year-old wrote on Instagram. "I've grown up supporting this club and worked for over 10 years to make this dream a reality.

"Too many people to name who have helped me in so many different ways. Thanks to the Academy staff and coaches for everything they have done to support my development.

"Last night would not have been possible without my family and friends, who have always been there for me. Lots more work to come to earn more moments like this."
