Less than an hour before Tuesday night’s game between the White Sox and Rangers at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, four fans were injured in an apparent hit-and-run collision, with two left in critical condition.
One of the pedestrians who was struck clung to the car as it sped away, according to the Associated Press. The vehicle was eventually stopped by an ambulance, while the person clinging to the car was one of the two left in critical condition.
The White Sox released a statement addressing the incident shortly after the game began.
“Our hearts go out to the four fans who were injured this evening, their families and friends, as well as the fans who witnessed the incident on their way to a baseball game,” the statement read. “The Chicago White Sox organization expresses its appreciation to the Chicago Police Department, the Chicago Fire Department, the Illinois State Police and others, including fans, who responded to the incident and provided immediate care for the victims.”
Additionally, four people who were inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital in fair to serious condition.
