Four clubs Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Manchester United to sign for in January

Manchester United are currently working out the best way to resolve the Cristiano Ronaldo situation.

His bombshell interview with Piers Morgan has not been broadcast in full as of yet but in the clips that have so far been released, Ronaldo has taken no prisoners. From Erik ten Hag to the Glazers and even Gary Neville, the 37-year-old appears to have burnt his bridges with United ahead of the World Cup.

On his return to Carrington, there will be three matches across the Carabao Cup and Premier League before the January transfer window opens, when Ronaldo will almost certainly leave the club. We've taken a look at some possible destinations for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner:

1) Sporting Lisbon

Perhaps one of the most likely destinations for Ronaldo is a return to where it all began in Lisbon. While reiterating the old football cliché that he is a ' Manchester United player', Sporting boss Ruben Amorim admitted earlier this week that everyone at his club 'liked' the 37-year-old perhaps hinting that he would be open to pursuing a move for the forward.

2) Chelsea

Should he wish to return to the Champions League, Stamford Bridge could be a destination. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was interested in a move for Ronaldo in the summer but it is understood Thomas Tuchel blocked an approach.

Graham Potter may have similar feelings about moving for Ronaldo but he has yet to build up the same authority over transfer decisions which Tuchel had. Despite everything, Ronaldo has still claimed he loves the fans at United and he would maybe avoid moving to the Blues in fear of tarnishing that relationship further.

3) Bayern Munich

A destination which would not affect his relationship with the United fanbase and guarantee him some Champions League football is a switch to Germany. Reports in the Daily Mail have suggested that Bayern and Ronaldo met last week to discuss a possible transfer.

However, Bayern chief executive Oliver Kahn dismissed a move for Ronaldo earlier this year saying that his club was looking at the 'bigger picture'. A big change of mind would have to occur for the 37-year-old to end up in Munich.

4) Inter Miami

If Ronaldo cannot seal a move to one of the three above teams, a move to the MLS may become inevitable. Often seen as a retirement home for greats of the European game, a switch state side might be the only destination available for the forward.

Inter Miami are the likeliest club to attract Ronaldo due to being owned by David Beckham and the former United star has already hinted at being a potential option for the Portuguese great. Should he wish to leave the Reds this winter, Inter Miami be more than happy to take him on.
