Police in Durham have made a fresh appeal to victims of domestic abuse to seek help after dealing with four incidents in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers received 999 calls reporting four women had been subject to domestic abuse.
Police attended each scene to safeguard the victims, and four men were arrested on suspicion of committing the abuse. They were taken into custody while investigations got under way, despite one of the women not supporting police action.
Posting to Twitter late on Thursday night, Durham Police said: "We wish we could say this was uncommon. It is not. But it won’t stop us doing everything we can to intervene, safeguard and prosecute.
"Domestic abuse isn't always physical. It can happen to men or women and takes many forms- psychological- physical- sexual- financial- emotional. Are you experiencing domestic abuse? Contact Harbour on 03000 202525. Always call 999 if you are in immediate danger."
