Four men have been arrested in connection to an alleged hit and run which left Emmerdale star Chelsea Halfpenny’s granddad seriously injured.
Following the incident on Friday night, in Gateshead, Chelsea’s 85-year-old grandfather was left seriously injured. He currently remains in a critical condition.
As our colleagues at Chronicle Live report, police state the man was struck by a car on Woodburn, on the Leam Lane estate and the vehicle then left the scene.

After the shocking incident, Chelsea, known to millions as Amy Wyatt in Emmerdale, made a passionate plea for information.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing following a suspected hit and run in Gateshead on Friday night which resulted in an elderly man being taken to hospital.

“The incident happened at about 7.30pm in the Woodburn area of Gateshead. For reasons to be established, a car struck an 85-year-old pedestrian who was left with serious injuries. The vehicle then left the scene.
“An investigation has been launched and four men – aged 30, 25, 23 and 18 – have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
"The 30-year-old man remains in police custody while the other three have since been released under investigation.
“The victim remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital."
Chelsea, 30, is the niece of fellow soap acting star Jill Halfpenny who has previously appeared in EastEnders.
