'Foul' on Celtic winger Daizen Maeda before Bayern Munich goal laid bare

Celtic supporters are adamant play should have been stopped for a foul on Daizen Maeda just 45 seconds before Bayern's decisive leveller in Munich.

Alphonso Davies bundled the ball over the line as he deflected a Cameron Carter-Vickers clearance into the net following a stunning Kasper Schmeichel stop.

However, Celtic fans reckon play should have been halted after a coming together between Maeda and Dayot Upamecano,

The Japanese winger fell to the ground after Upamecano stretched out his arm to stop the Celtic player from applying pressure.

Maeda would not have impacted play had he not collided with Upamecano but there was clear contact as Bayern looked to recycle play in stoppage time.

The Celtic winger clutched his face on the turf after the incident before being hauled back to his feet by the Bayern Munich defender.

Referee Benoit Bastien was not interested in the incident as he waved play on while Maeda was still on the ground holding his face. The referee had started to walk towards Maeda but then turned his attention to play as Bayern surged forward.

Had the referee viewed the injury as a head knock hen guidelines state play should be stopped. Play should be continued if an injury is not deemed as serious but this is not the case for head injury incidents.

Within 45 seconds, Bayern Munich had the all-important equaliser prompting fury over the alleged foul on Maeda from Celtic supporters.

Maeda was down with 92.30 on the clock with the Bayern goal coming on 93:15.

Commentator John Champion said: "Maeda has gone down after a coming together with Upamecano.

"He has been dragged back to his feet by the French defender. Meanwhile, play goes on."
