Foul-mouthed Glasgow carer bawled and swore at elderly patients

A Glasgow carer told a vulnerable woman to 'get to f***' and 'shut the f*** up' during a tirade at work.

Darren Bonner was working as a senior care assistant at Clarkston House care home in April 2020 when the incidents allegedly unfolded.

During a shift he was reported to have referred to a woman as a 'f*****g b***h" and when an unknown resident said not to push her, he told her to "get to f***".

On another occasion, while carrying out personal care for a resident who was screaming, he shouted at her to "shut up, shut up, shut the f*** up".

When the woman told him that someone else had already carried out her personal care, he shouted at her "no they f***** haven't".

Bonner was reported to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) but denied all of the allegations, which were made by a carer who was on her first shift at the home. She hasn't worked in the care home since.

He later resigned from his position and is now working for the NHS.

The panel found that Bonner's fitness to practise was impaired and that he had failed to communicate appropriately or maintain the dignity and privacy of residents.

They noted that the incidents didn't appear to have taken place on a "particularly challenging shift" and that his treatment of service users in their own home was "unacceptable". They said that he had failed to show remediation or steps taken to remedy the behaviour. This meant there was a risk of repetition.

Bonner has had a warning placed on his registration for 12 months. He told the panel he would accept the conditions of his order but would not accept the allegations.
