Fortnite Zero Point is an ongoing comic collaboration with DC and Epic that has Batman investigating the nature of the universe-fusing Zero Point within the game.
The comic uses a number of DC characters who have already made their way into Fortnite, along with actual Fortnite characters, but it appears to be teasing a few that are yet to come. And one in particular is enough to raise some eyebrows.
New leaks via FireMonkey and CUAUMAGANA show off six pages from the final issue of the comic. And guess who shows up in the last leaked page?
The Batman Who Laughs.
The scene is in Spanish, so I don’t know what they’re saying, but it’s a villain meeting between Deathstroke, Lex Luthor and The Batman Who Laughs. Deathstroke is already in the game, Lex Luthor is not, though as a “guy in a suit” would probably not be the most interesting addition. But The Batman Who Laughs? DC has been going nuts with this character for a while now, and it appears he may be on his way to Fortnite.
So, for the uninitiated, who exactly is The Batman Who Laughs?
The Batman Who Laughs is Bruce Wayne from Earth-22 who first appeared in the comics in 2017. In that alternate earth, he had to deal with a Joker that went on an absolutely insane killing spree, executing Catwoman, Penguin, Killer Croc and even Jim Gordon. Batman ends up being drugged by Joker, paralyzing him but keeping him conscious, an the Joker bombed a hospital, injected children with Joker venom after killing their parents right in front of him. Batman got back his movement eventually and was so furious he snapped Joker’s neck. The problem? Joker’s heart exhaled a toxin meant to activate on his death, so it infected Batman.
Gradually, Bruce’s conditioned worsened and he eventually snapped. He murdered Batgirl, Nightwing Red Hood and Red Robin in the batcave with a pair of machine guns. He went on to murder the rest of the Justice League, including an absurd scene where he infects Superman and his son Jon with Black Kryptonite, and they murder Lois Lane before killing each other. This is the “complete” transformation of Batman into the Batman Who Laughs, though he goes on to do a whole lot more bad stuff after that.
We will uh, probably not witness any of that in Fortnite, a game for children, but we probably will get this smiling, creepy, spiky variant of Batman as a skin sometime soon. Likely before the end of this season. Stay tuned for that and apparently I have some comics I need to go read.
