Last year around the time of Avengers: Infinity War’s release, Epic Games and Marvel teamed up on a special Thanos-themed Fortnite mode. Players would try to find the Infinity Gauntlet which turn them into Thanos until they were killed. The Gauntlet would grant them superpowers, making them tougher to kill though hardly immune.
For Avengers: Endgame, Epic has taken things much, much further.
Not only is there a new limited time Endgame mode, there’s also a bunch of new free challenges and rewards, and even a Black Widow skin in the Item Shop (with more Avengers cosmetics to come, no doubt).
So how does the new Avengers: Endgame LTM work in Fortnite: Battle Royale? It’s actually pretty cool.
Here’s the blurb:
Drop in with your squad, search for the Avenger’s items and take the fight to Thanos! Can you eliminate Thanos and his army before the last Infinity Stone is found? Or will he complete the Infinity Gauntlet and pick up a Snap Royale? Play the Marvel Studios Avengers: Endgame LTM now!
Endgame: Team Thanos vs Team Hero
This isn’t a solo Battle Royale mode like the Thanos LTM from last year. Instead, two teams square off in a very unique mode with limited respawns.
One of these teams is Team Thanos and his army of Chitauri aliens. This team’s goal is to find all six Infinity Stones and wipe out the other team. The Chitauri are armed with Chitauri laser rifles–the first laser rifles to land in Fortnite–structure-damaging grenades, and special Chitauri jetpacks. There are also Chitauri energy launchers.
Whichever Chitauri finds the first Infinity Stone becomes Thanos until they’re killed. Then there’s a brief break until another Chitauri becomes Thanos and so on and so forth. Chitauri respawn for the first phase of the game.
Like before, Thanos has a powerful punch, a mighty leap, and a beam attack. He will be a formidable foe, though now the other side has the tools to deal with him.
The second team is Team Hero, which we will just call Team Fishstick. Each team member begins the match with a special Treasure Map that leads directly to a Mythic Avengers item, with other similar items found in chests around the map. These are powerful items that will give Team Thanos a run for its money.
These include:
- Thor’s Stormbreaker Axe (a weapon, not a pickaxe)
- Captain America’s Shield (also a weapon)
- Hawkeye’s Bow (a grappler)
This time around, at least, Thanos will meet his match.
The Infinity Stones
Each time someone on Team Thanos finds an Infinity Stone, Thanos becomes more powerful. Finding them quickly will be key to success.
Here’s what each Infinity Stone does:
- Reality Stone (Red) = Heath & Shields doubled (1000->2000)
- Soul Stone (Orange) = Siphon activated (grants Thanos shields only)
- Mind Stone (Yellow) = Jump height doubled
- Space Stone (Blue) = Ground Pound AOE size tripled, damage x6
- Time Stone (Green) = Big knockback added to each hit, damage x3
- Power Stone (Purple) = Laser damage x6
Once all the Infinity Stones are collected, players on Team Fishstick will no longer respawn and Team Thanos has the chance to wipe them out and win the match.
For Team Fishstick to win, they have to eliminate all 99 of the Chitauri lives/respawns before the other team finds the Infinity Stones and . . . snap.
Do you have what it takes to get a Snap Royale?
This is going to be way too much fun, and it’s going to be sad when the event ends. It’s such a creative mode, I hope Epic introduces more like it. There’s never been a better time to play Fortnite than right now, at least if you’re a fan of The Avengers.
Speaking of Avengers: Endgame, it opens this evening. Look for my review this weekend.
