It is a little strange that planes in Fortnite feel indelibly associated with Winter, but here we are: something about that first video of tactical Santa flying one of them back when they were first introduced just left an impression. Regardless, they’re back for Operation Snowmando, and you’ll want to know where to find them. The X-34 Stormwings are tied to Snowmando Outposts, which are sort of buggy right now. The outposts might show up, the planes might show up, both might or neither might: it’s sort of a crapshoot, though we expect it to recover once Epic does some work on that. Here are those locations:
The most reliable source of planes that I’ve found here is the base near Catty Corner, where there are three plane spawns right nearby. Not only does the base seem to spawn pretty reliably, the planes do too. Just remember to get there quickly enough so that other people don’t steal them.
These things were a mess when they first arrived in the game, raining terror down from the skies and safely insulating players from the beginning of the match until the end, creating all sorts of problems in the process. There were a ton of nerfs right away that made the things more manageable, but the fuel one right now is one of the most effective: no longer can you just ride these things all day, and you certainly can’t boost all day. Sooner or later, you’ll come crashing down.
One thing I do hop we’ll see is the return of that dogfighting mode the game had for a little while: that thing was nutty, and one of the best examples of just how weird Fortnite can get when it decides to use the tools it has on hand to create a totally different experience. The current LTM, The Spy Within, is another pretty good example of that.
So do your best to get a plane and scoot around the map: it should make the Snowmando outpost challenge a whole lot easier, while you’re at it. Just watch your fuel.
