Fortnite World Cup Duos finals won by Nyhrox and Aqua in first-ever competition

The Fortnite World Cup Duos finals have been won by Nyhrox and Aqua who together shared a $3million prize.

The European pair battled against 50 teams from across the world at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Emil 'Nyhrox' Bergquist Pedersen from Norway, and David 'Aqua' W, from Austria, scored 51 points in the finals, four points ahead of the first runner-up team with Brit player Wolfiez.

As the multiplayer online game grows its physical presence, the game has brought its first ever World Cup event which gathered 10,000 attendees in the stadium.

Nyphrox shared the victory on Twitter after the game and wrote: "Bringing the trophy [emoji] back home."

Teammate Aqua was stunned as he wrote on social media stating 'this is just kreizy [sic]'.

Video shared by their team, Cooler Esport, captures the moment the duo walk onto the stage and hold onto the cup as the audience cheer and applause.

The World Cup duo competition involves a combination of eliminations and placement over the course of six matches to determine the winner.

But at the end, it was Victory Royale that made the difference.

Nyhrox and Aqua secured the top spot when they won two consecutive rounds in game 4 and game 5, which pushed them to the top of the leaderboard.

A Fortnite World Cup match is something of a wonder to behold and plays out totally different than your average public lobby.

The game stops resembling anything you've really seen before as things move towards the final circles and combat morphs into a shifting, acrobatic build with dozens of players bouncing around and jockeying for position as their numbers start to winnow: slowly at first, and then very quickly.

The Fortnite World Cup continues tomorrow with Solos finals.
