Fortnite v31.20 update lets you explore new territory with Lost Isles LEGO expansion

The Fortnite v31.20 update is here and it brings a major expansion of LEGO Fortnite, Lost Isles.

At the time of writing, Fortnite is undergoing preparatory maintenance for the update, suggesting LEGO Fortnite: Lost Isles may be here by the time you read this.

Lost Isles adds a fistful of new environments to the survival-crafting world of LEGO Fortnite and, more importantly, sees the return of fan favourite character Klombo.

This large and cute (and potentially dangerous) dinosaur-like creature was added to Fortnite: Battle Royale in Chapter 3, in 2021. But in the game lore, he died, and his skull appeared on the map in Chapter 3 Season 3, in 2022, despite being a legend among players.

The LEGO Fortnite version of Klombo is perhaps a little less intimidating than the original, but are still huge compared to a player minifig. And you can still ride on their backs.

As in Fortnite Battle Royale, you can get a Klombo on your side by feeding them Klomberries, found in the plains biome. And the Klombo themselves “can be found in their native lagoon habitats” according to the Fortnite blog.

Here’s the list of biomes included in LEGO Fortnite: Lost Isles:

  • Plains
  • Jungle
  • Mountains
  • Floating Islands
  • Beach

Yep, we’re looking at some pretty classic environments, but each has its own quirks. In the jungle, you’ll find Storm-Wild Tomatoes, which are people with tribal markings and tomato heads that, by the sound of it, will attack you on sight.

Up in the mountains, you’ll find pirate fortresses, while the floating islands offer “rewards you won't find anywhere else”. And on the plains, you’ll meet the friendly Peely tribe, who are banana people.

What is the LEGO Fortnite Pass?

LEGO Fortnite: Lost Isles also introduces a Tropical Treasures Pass, only the second of this type added to the game mode so far, following the Star Wars-themed Rebel Adventure plan.

The more quests you complete in-game, the more cosmetics and items you’ll be able to unlock. And, as in the previous Pass, there are free and paid-for tiers.

With 1400 V-Bucks, worth just under £10, you will unlock the paid tier. And you get a banana-person Peely islander skin for doing so.

The final unlock of the free tier is pretty impressive in its own right, though, a NaNa Hut, which requires 11,000 studs to unlock. You’ll have until 7am on October 11 to earn those studs. That is when this Pass’s season winds down.
