Epic Games has updated Fortnite just days after the launch of its Greek mythology-themed new season.
A new limited time mode called Rise of Midas is now available in the multiplayer game, complete with new quests and rewards, skins, and weapons.
Epic Games took the game offline for a couple of hours from 8am UK time this morning to implement the update, titled V29.01.
Long-time Fortnite players are in for a treat as the update revolves around fan-favourite character Midas, the leader of a shadowy military organisation, who first appeared as a legendary outfit (or Skin) in the game back in 2020.
This time around, the secret agent has been given an ancient Greek makeover, with a tan, as well as gaudy silver and gold armour and a matching crown to boot.
When does the Rise of Midas end?
In the Rise of Midas, players can help Midas flee the island by completing special quests, which are split into five phases. The first, Midas Rises, is available now, while the others will launch between March 20-28. They’ll all be available until the Rise of Midas ends on April 2 at 1pm.
As usual, you’ll be rewarded with various items for completing the quests, including the Cerberus Medallion Spray, the Rose of Avarice Back Bling, and the Queen in Gold Glider.
In addition, Midas is bringing with him the Floor is Lava mode, in which players must build up or reach higher ground to escape the damaging molten rock that is covering the island. Only this time, the lava will be gold instead of orange to fit with this blinged-out season.
New items and weapons
An update also means new in-game and Fortnite shop goodies. First up, you can buy the Ascendant Midas outfit from March 27 in the UK, along with the Golden King's Cape Back Bling and The Golden Touch Pickaxe. New in-game items include the Chains of Hades, the Shield Bubble Jr. and the Drum G
un.
How to take part in the Solo Rise of Midas Cup
Fortnite is all about triumphing over others in a last-man-standing battle royale. To put gamers to the test, Epic is holding a Solo Rise of Midas Cup on March 24, where players who earn the most points will win the Ascendant Midas outfit and Golden King’s Cape Back Bling, and other freebies. Those who don’t make it to the top of the pile can still get a Midas loading screen by earning at least eight points.
To take part, you’ll need to be at least level 15, have two-factor authentication enabled and verified on your Epic account. Younger players with Cabined Accounts, which come with parental controls, will not be able to participate in the Rise of Midas Cup, according to Epic.
Finally, the latest update should squash a number of bugs including an issue allowing players to throw the Thunderbolt of Zeus through structures, and the ability to fly with Wings of Icarus indefinitely.
