Fortnite update 24.01 went live earlier today, although due to the lack of patch notes, many are left wondering what it was actually for.
After some downtime earlier today, the first Fortnite update after the launch of Chapter 4 Season 2 has arrived. However, those expecting a major update will be left disappointed, as update 24.01 is mainly centred around small fixes. Because of this, there are no official patch notes to run through, but we do have a small update from Epic Games, and some news from leakers that could give us more insight into exactly what was included in Fortnite update 24.01.
Epic took to the @FortniteStatus Twitter account to announce that 120fps and splitscreen on Xbox Series S have been resolved by update 24.01. This issue plagued Xbox Series S users upon the launch of Chapter 4 Season 2 and would cause crashes when users on this specific console tried to play in splitscreen or 120fps mode. Other than that, Epic hasn’t said confirmed any additional details about what exactly was included with this update.
As usual with Fortnite, the patch size is different for each console. Thankfully the 24.01 patch is pretty minor, with the confirmed patch sizes as follows:
PS5 - 1.48GB
PS4 - 1.65GB
Xbox Series X|S - 1.5GB
Xbox One - 1.24GB
Nintendo Switch - 1.2GB
PC - 760MB
Android - 480MB
Fortnite Creative 2.0 and UEFN
As we found out last week, the release of Fortnite Creative 2.0 is set for this Wednesday, March 22, which also includes the launch of the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) on the Epic Games store. The UEFN was originally targeted to release back in December 2022, but after a series of delays, it’s finally making its way to the game three months later. As you would expect before such a big update, there’s likely some housekeeping to do in the game before it launches.
According to the ever-reliable Fortnite leaker @ShiinaBR, the main purpose of this update is actually in preparation for UEFN launching this Wednesday. The leaker tweeted around the time the game went down for maintenance at 8am GMT / 4am ET / 1am PT this morning, letting players know that this update wouldn’t include any new cosmetics and that “it only includes some final touches for UEFN which will be released on Wednesday at 12pm ET”.
Hopefully, the next Fortnite update will be more substantial. In the meantime, you could always tackle the Fortnite Nitro Drifter challenges, or check out the new Resident Evil 4 crossover bundle!
