Fortnite’s Battle Pass Season 4 begins today. Things kick off with big changes to the map and a whole new suite of challenges.
Here they are:
- Deal damage with Sniper Rifles to opponents (500)
- Search Chests in Haunted Hills (7)
- Use a Port-a-Fort (1)
- Search F-O-R-T-N-I-T-E Letters (8)
- Follow the treasure map found in Tomato Town (1) (HARD)
- Pistol Eliminations (3) (HARD)
- Eliminate opponents in Flush Factory (3) (HARD)

The rest of these challenges are fairly self-explanatory, though given that there have been some rather big changes to the map, including the new addition of consumables that quite literally defy gravity, you may find some twists and turns in your quest for glory.
Remember with the sniper rifle challenge you only need to deal damage, you don’t need to actually eliminate anyone. For pistol eliminations, try to find higher-tier weapons before going in for the kill. An easy way to do this is in 50v50 mode, where lots of high-tier weapons drop as loot in the final circle and picking off enemies can be a breeze.
This entire Season 4 extravaganza has been something of a watershed moment in online gaming. I’ve never seen this level of hype for any game’s new season. Many games have seasons of competitive play that only really appeal to fans who play in higher-tier, competitive playlists. The difference with Fortnite: Battle Royale is that each new season applies to anyone who purchases the Battle Pass. I’m not sure of the percentage of players who make that purchase—you can play the game entirely for free, after all—but I’d wager it’s incredibly high.
This makes sense. The challenges make the game more interesting and the rewards, including new skins, emotes, sprays and so forth, are fun to win. There’s also the Free Pass, of course. For Season 4 here are the Free Pass challenges, available to everyone:
- Outlive Opponents (1,000)
- Play matches with friends (10)
- Deal damage to opponents (5,000)
- Land at different Named Locations (10)
- Play Matches (50)
- Play matches with at least one elimination (10)
- Win a Match (HARD)
In any case, there’s plenty to keep you occupied even with the free stuff, but the Battle Pass and its weekly challenges is a great value and makes this free-to-play Battle Royale game that much more fun.
