Fortnite has decided to make season 8 based entirely around the concept of Chapter 1’s famous Cube, Kevin, except now there are many Cubes, and apparently, about to be many more.
Cubes rained down from the sky after the destruction of the alien mothership, and a few hit the map, including a special Gold Cube.
Well uh, something weird happened. I’m pretty sure the Cubes are…mating.
Over the past few days, the special Golden Cube rolled its way to one of the normal purple Cubes and started zapping it with electricity. It eventually stopped, and now that Cube has produced…Cube children. The Cubes are breeding.
There is now a smaller collection of Cubes, two kinds, smaller in size, following the “mother” purple Cube around with daddy “Golden Cube” hanging out nearby. The smaller Cubes roll around a lot more than their larger ancestors, though they have the same powers of zapping you if you get too close and whack them or shoot them. Don’t shoot the baby Cubes you monster!
Why are the Cubes breeding? That remains unclear, but according to projections, all the Cubes, including the Golden Cube, will eventually make their way to the center of the map. Before that, however, the Golden Cube is apparently going to circle the entire map and uh, impregnate the other Cubes and get them to start spawning their own baby Cubes. Yes this is exactly as weird as it sounds but I can’t think of any other way to describe. The Cubes are getting it on, what can I say.
My best guess is that there will be dozens of Cubes, large and small, by the time they all make it to the middle, and they will combine for some sort of grand Cube ceremony that will alter the map some way in the middle of the season. Given that we are barely a week into this season and all of this has already started to unfold, I really doubt the Cube multiplication process is going to take the entire season, and I’m guessing this will change and evolving in a couple weeks here, at most.
Fortnite is always at its best when it’s doing weird map mysteries, and the breeding Cubes is certainly one of the weirder ones it’s done in quite a long time, certainly more than the relatively straightforward “humans versus aliens” story of last season or “superheroes fight Galactus” before that. The Cubes? We never really know what the Cubes are doing, and now we’re going to see something new, it seems, as the Cube spawn increase in number. Stay tuned.
