'Fortnite' Patch v7.01 Unleashes A Devastating, Legendary Sword, Creative Mode Updates

Fortnite

Fortnite’s first major patch of season 7 is here, update v7.01, and it’s unleashing a new weapon that is not at all what many were expecting, among other new additions.

It was teased by Epic before it was leaked by anyone else, as it showed up in the season 7 artwork on launch day, but now a sword, specifically the Infinity Blade from Epic’s past mobile title of the same name, is now in Fortnite.

The Infinity Blade serves as a tribute to a trilogy that Epic has as of yesterday, removed from purchase completely. I’m still not sure what went on here, but I think it was some sort of licensing issue, but you can’t buy the game anymore anywhere, so it will have to live on in some small way in Fortnite. But the blade itself is not at all what I was expecting:

Infinity Blade

The weapon is not a new item that pops out of treasure chests, rather, it’s a unique item found only in one spot on the map, the newly melted town square of Polar Peak where players will have to pull it from the earth.

There is only one on the map, only one appears per game and it’s a Thanos-like superweapon. Its primary fire delivers a huge, 75 damage sword slash, which alternate damage leaps through the air cutting through any breakable object in its path and knocking up players for 25 damage.

Fortnite

  • 200/200 health/shields instantly
  • Health and shield regeneration (1 HP per second)
  • 50 HP on an enemy kill
  • 130% increased movement speed

The downside?

  • You drop all your items when you pick up the Infinity Blade
  • You can’t pick up any new items or you will drop the Infinity Blade
  • I mean, it’s a melee weapon, so you’re really vulnerable to ranged attacked
Fortnite

So yeah, this is going to really shake up the game because this Thanos-style item is not just its own LTM, it’s in the regular modes, so that’s a big deal. I do wonder if this opens the door to other swords that are not superweapons, but just ones you can add to your inventory for close encounters, but we’ll see. And speaking of close encounters…

Close Encounters

The LTM is back with jetpacks and shotguns only. For a brief moment, planes were in the mode but Epic has quickly disabled those. Stats are enabled for the mode and the storm moves more quickly than usual. Enjoy.

Creative Mode

Epic has added a ton of stuff to Creative Mode in this update, too much to list here in full so you’ll probably just want to read the full patch notes breakdown.

The highlights include the addition of a fifth new island that contains a zone that is exactly the size of The Block so you can design something to specifically fit in that spot as you try to get Epic to pick your creation.

There are also now Featured Islands that will feature Community Creations with maps that can be played with creator-made rules. That’s an interesting concept.
