‘Fortnite’ Coral Buddies Location: How And Where To Signal The Coral Buddies

It’s already Week 6 of Fortnite’s fifth Chapter 2 season. We have another batch of challenges to complete today, or Epic Quests as they’re called this season.

These mostly involve destroying things—motorboats, fishing holes and so forth. See the full list of challenges here.

But one of this week’s challenges, buried a few deep in the new two-tier challenge setup, tasks players with signaling the Coral Buddies.

We’ve seen the Coral Buddies before, though not everyone was aware of their existence. Back in Season 3, we were given various secret challenges having to do with the little critters. Those challenges were similar in nature to the Teddy Bear vs Gnome challenges—secret, not mentioned anywhere explicit in-game. They were fun challenges, but a lot of players probably missed them.

In any case, now the Coral Buddies can get the fame they deserve.

In order to signal the Coral Buddies, head to the northwest corner of the map and land in Coral Castle, the aquatic, coral reef Named Location that is usually pretty mild. It will be hotter now with this challenge.

There you will find three shells, each of which you need to interact with in order to complete this challenge. Here’s where you’ll find each one:

These shells are found near bits of coral and are plenty large and easy to spot once you’re near enough. Remember, you’ll need to solve other challenges first, so these won’t appear until they’re in your challenge list.

Unfortunately, this season’s challenge UI is super messy and annoying, with various NPCs giving out challenges in a long, unwieldy list. It’s easier to note which challenges you have left to solve once you’re in a match and select “Challenges” from the menu.

In any case, this should make completing this challenge fairly straightforward. What signaling the little critters will achieve remains to be seen. Maybe next week we’ll get another Coral Buddy quest, or maybe they’ll bring back some more secret challenges. We shall see.
