Fortnite Cipher Quests: encrypted challenges, locations, and rewards

The latest Fortnite update has arrived, bringing with it the new Cipher Quests, rewards, and locker items

Fortnite update 23.50 dropped this week and the biggest news is the addition of the brand new Cipher Quests. As the name implies these quests involve decrypting quests by using a series of clues. A new quest will be added every day up until Tuesday, March 7 and will remain available to complete until Friday, March 10, when the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 update is expected to arrive.

Completing these quests will bag you some new goodies such as sprays, an emoticon, wraps, and more. You'll be using the Six Shooter and Infantry Rifle – both of which were unvaulted in update 23.50 – for some of these quests, as well as raw brain power to crack the clues and figure out the locations. But if that sounds a bit too strenuous, kick back and let us do all the hard work for you.

The quests are broken down into two categories, Encrypted Cipher Quests and Cipher Quests, which we'll get into below. Check back daily for updates as more Fortnite Cipher Quests unlock, but here's everything you need to know so far about the encrypted and unencrypted quests, locations, and rewards.

Cipher Quest rewards

You can unlock five Fortnite Cipher Quests rewards as you hit the prerequisites, as well as earning XP along the way.

Unencrypted Fortnite Cipher Quests

Unencrypted Fortnite Cipher Quests are comprised of clear objectives, and you get 10k XP for ticking each one off the list. Encrypted Fortnite Cipher Quests

As the game went down for maintenance, Epic posted a tweet that included an encoded message: 3 18 1 3 11 20 8 5 3 15 4 5. Using an A1Z26 cipher, in which A=1 B=2 and so on, the message reads 'crack the code'. In the Cipher Quests menu it says "A signal has been detected with a looping encrypted message inside that reads 0.3.1.0.2.0.2.3."

This means for the in-game ciphers that the codes are offset by this loop, for example the first quest reads 1.17.23.9.14. 19.19.24.1.21.6 which when you translate with A1Z26 you get aqwin ssxauf, which is gibberish, but when you subtract the loop from the ciphers (1-0=1, 17-3=14 and so on) you get 1.14.22.9.12. 19.17.21.1.18.5 which translates to 'Anvil Square'.

Fortnite Encrypted Cipher Quest 1.14.22.9.12. 19.17.21.1.18.5: Anvil Square

The first Cipher is found in Anvil Square, there is a garage on the eastern side of the area, and in there you will find a locker next to a stack of tires. Destroy this locker, make your way downstairs and you will see what looks like a blurry barcode on the wall. Walk over and interact with it and that's the first decrypted cipher.

Whack this locker and the cipher shall follow (Epic Games)

Fortnite Encrypted Cipher Quest 19.19.19.1.27. 1.22. 22.16.15.10.20.21. 2.17.26.12: Splits Bowl

You then get a quest saying 19.19.19.1.27. 1.22. 22.16.15.10.20.21. 2.17.26.12 which translates to "spray at Splits Bowl". Go to the Faulty Splits location and you should see the sign pointing out Splits Bowl (if you need any help look for the hire icon on your minimap, the NPC you can hire is in there). Then bring up your emote wheel and you should see a unique spray, just spray it anywhere and you're done!

Fortnite Encrypted Cipher Quest 12.18.15.5.14.25. 14.4.2.22: Lonely Labs

The third quest is 12.18.15.5.14.25. 14.4.2.22 which translates to Lonely Labs. It tells you to decrypt a computer underneath a snow mound. Considering the whole area is snow mound it's hard to narrow it down. There's an open shipping container in the area which is lodged within a mound of snow, near the area's flag and the Reboot Van that is stuck in the ice. Go through there (watch out for people camping in it) and interact with the computer and that's it!

Pop on through this container to find a computer within (Epic Games)

Fortnite Encrypted Cipher Quest 19.11.2.20.22.5.20.8.4. 22.13.1.4.19: Shattered Slabs

The fourth quest is "dig at the top of 19.11.2.20.22.5.20.8.4. 22.13.1.4.19" which translates to Shattered Slabs. Go to Shattered Slabs and in the northwest part of the quarry there's a part of the rock with a big square block taken out of it. Go there and you will see a small shiny point on the floor. Hit it with your Harvesting Tool and the quest is complete.

Hit the shiny spot with your pickaxe for todays quest (Epic Games)

You have until Friday, March 10 to complete them all, so best to get started on them now if you haven't yet. You'll also have until then to complete the Fortnite Creed Quests and unlock the Creed Gloves spray.
