Fortnite patch notes: What's new in Chapter 2? Map, trailer and Battle Pass

Fortnite Chapter 2 has finally landed after the game was out for nearly two days.

A meteor shower at the end of Season 10 sucked the entire map and game into a black hole in an event known as "The End".

Those who have attempted to log on since Sunday evening have been met with just a live stream of a black hole and with no way of playing.

But this was all just part of an elaborate conclusion to the previous season and, following a short downtime this morning, Chapter 2 dropped to rapturous applause all round.

There are a whole host of new features for gamers to enjoy, so here is everything you need to know about Fornite Chapter 2, Season 1.

Fortnite Chapter 2 updates

Alongside the usual new skins and weapons and cosmetic changes are the following upgrades, which promise to fundamentally alter gameplay.

However an official list of all the patch notes has not been released yet.

Trailer

All new map

Chapter 2 features and all-new island with 13 new locations and map dynamics. There are a lot of trees and water, and on the ground there promises to be a whole host of fun things to explore.

New water gameplay

Since the new map has a lot of water around it, water gameplay has seen a major overhaul.

Not only can players now dive into the sea instead of just wading through it, but you can now go fishing in the water for food or guns.

You can also pilot motorboats, and shoot from them at other players, to help you get around the map more quickly.

Supporting your squad

Players can now heal squad members with the bandage bazooka and carry fallen teammates to safety, while the developers have added group emotes to help you celebrate as a team.

New hideouts and explosives

Gamers can now hide in a number of new objects, such as haystacks and dumpsters, to jump out and kill players, or blow up other items, such as gas tanks and explosive barrels, to help in attack.

Combat upgrades

The weapons arsenal has been streamlined, while the weapons themselves can be upgraded at the upgrade bench.

Levelling up

Epic has introduced an "all-new Battle Pass featuring a brand new XP system and medals you earn in match", which promises to make levelling-up and progression more fun to play and "less of a grind".

This they say will make the game overall more enjoyable for players.

Battle Pass

This is the largest Battle Pass that has ever been released - 1,500 V-Bucks are available as you level up through the tiers, including the aforementioned new skins and cosmetics.
