'Fortnite' Breach Spits Out Ancient Greek Anchor, Confirming Season 5's Historical Theme

Fortnite

I told you this was going to be a big one.

While the last five breaches around the Fortnite map have all consumed signs in various points of interest in the map, the sixth one that appeared yesterday was in the middle of nowhere, pointing to something different happening today.

And something different it is. The rift has spat out a wood and stone anchor.

Now, some may think that this isn’t much to go on, but I did some research to discover this website and image (I can’t repost here as it’s not my photo, but check it out).

The anchor in that photo has been dated to the 6th century BC, in other words, it’s from Ancient Greece. The anchor that has just shown up in Fortnite is almost identical to this, and I would not be surprised if Epic used it as a model as it’s one of the photos that come up when you search for “ancient anchor” on Google.

Almost all modern anchors are metal, and have been for a long, long time, so there’s really no getting around the fact that this is a historical artifact, suddenly transported to this modern day map. You can break the anchor, which dissolves into wood, not metal, in case you really wanted to be sure.

If you follow my train of thought here, yes, this officially confirms what leaks have been saying for weeks now, that the theme of Fortnite season 5 is going to be historical theme. We have heard that there are going to be Greek, Roman and Egyptian skins among others, and this Greek anchor certainly lends validity to that.

And the fact that this came through a breach also implies that another fan theory might be true, that the other breaches around the map are going to open and produce new “historical” areas pulled throughout history. If all five breaches open, we could see new zones take over Greasy Grove, Retail Row, Lonely Lodge, Tomato Town and the motel in the north west of the map. The theory is that each could be a different zone throughout history.

If the pattern follows, we might get another new historical artifact appearing every day until season 5 launches on July 12. I’m not sure where the next portal is yet, but we should definitely check that spot tomorrow.

I’m not sure how many people are going to make the connection between this anchor and history, but I think it’s undeniable when you look up that image of the ancient Greek anchor. Perhaps the other objects will be more obvious (a Sphinx head would probably do it), but I am taking this as confirmation of the historical theme, which is obviously extremely exciting. I’m also wondering if the entire map could theoretically be transformed if the sky shatters, but I’m going to put money on specific zones instead.

I’m off to hunt down tomorrow’s portal. Never thought I’d be this excited about an anchor showing up in the middle of nowhere in a video game, but that’s the power of Fortnite.
