Formerly 'inadequate' nursery feels vindicated after positive Ofsted inspection

A nursery in Wigan has been ‘vindicated’ after their Ofsted rating changed from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’ following a recent inspection. Langtree Hall Day Nursery in Standish has children ‘arriving full of smiles’ with babies looking to ‘seek out staff, sit on their knee and enjoy lots of cuddles’, a report found.

This inspection, undertaken in December 2022, complimented the Langtree Lane based site’s staff on their safeguarding protocols, quality of education, leadership and personal development. This report was in stark contrast to the one the nursery received after an inspection in June 2022, which left parents ‘astonished’.

The report from the previous inspection slammed the education practices as well as the leadership qualities within the nursery as ‘Requires Improvement’ and ‘Inadequate’ respectively - two factors that were highly regarded in the most recent report.

“There is a sharp curriculum focused on developing children's physical skills, particularly learning in the outdoors,” the Ofsted report said. “This is a result of the continued impact on children's learning and development from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Children have access to excellent outdoor facilities. They have space to run freely, scale large play equipment, explore the woodland area and observe the local wildlife.

“Staff use these opportunities well to further support children's development across all areas of learning.”

The report also highlighted how leaders and staff demonstrate knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection. This included aspects of safeguarding such as 'toxic trio’, the 'Prevent' duty and female genital mutilation.

The nursery’s management team said they were shocked by their previous ‘inadequate’ rating, but claimed that parents did not lose faith in them as a result. They said no parent removed their child from the nursery.

A statement from the management team at Langtree Nursery said: "We are extremely proud of our Ofsted report and feel that this gives a true reflection of the nursery contrary to the previous report. Parents made it quite clear to us that they never had any concerns or doubts regarding the safeguarding and care of their children.

“Indeed, many of them after the findings of the previous report were very vocal about how astonished they were about its findings. They have now voiced very loudly that we have now received what they always thought we deserved namely a ‘Good’.

“Not one child was removed by their parents despite the previous report, showing their confidence in the nursery. We are grateful for the support given by parents throughout the previous difficult period, this was vindicated.”
