Former West Lothian council depot being transformed into new neighbourhood

A former council depot is being transformed into a new mini neighbourhood of council homes.

The transformation of the Eagle Brae depot in Livingston is gathering pace as work continues on the delivery of 29 new council homes.

It's the latest in an ambitious building programme for the council, one of the few in Scotland which has pursued a council house building policy.

CCG are building the houses on behalf of West Lothian Council. They include a mixture of one-bedroom cottage flats; two, three, four- and five-bedroom houses and two- and three-bedroom bungalows.

Work is anticipated to be complete and the homes open to new tenants by the end of the Summer.

The new homes contain a number of features designed to help tenants reduce their carbon footprint. This includes future provision for electric vehicle charging points and PPV solar panels to help reduce energy consumption.

Executive councillor for services for the community, George Paul was recently onsite with officers from the council’s Housing Service to oversee the latest steps being taken as the former council depot site is transformed.

Councillor Paul said: “With the old depot surplus to requirements, it is fantastic to see the land being put to good use. Livingston has long been the most in demand area of West Lothian for social housing.

“The range of homes being delivered here at Eagle Brae demonstrates the commitment to increasing the availability of affordable homes in the Livingston area. It has been good to be onsite once more to see good work being carried out by contractors and the council.”

CCG Managing Director, David Wylie, said: “I am delighted to see that Eagle Brae is progressing well. The project, alongside a further 29 homes that are also being created in Livingston, is bringing much-needed, highly energy-efficient homes to West Lothian and we look forward to welcoming the new residents this summer.”
