This tragic incident involving a former Washington state police officer has left a community in shock and sorrow. The individual in question, Elias Huizar, was accused of committing a series of violent acts that culminated in his own death by suicide.
The events unfolded when Huizar allegedly killed his ex-wife, Amber Marie Rodriguez, and his 17-year-old girlfriend. He also abducted his 1-year-old son, who he shared with his girlfriend. The situation escalated as Oregon State Troopers engaged in a pursuit with Huizar near Eugene, Oregon.
During the chase, Huizar's vehicle came to a stop after colliding with a commercial vehicle that was stationary due to an unrelated crash. It was at this moment that Huizar inflicted a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, resulting in his death at the scene.
Thankfully, Huizar's 1-year-old son was safely rescued by Oregon State Police troopers and taken into custody. The pursuit, which spanned approximately 25 miles, involved high speeds and even gunfire exchanged between Huizar and the troopers.
Prior to these tragic events, Huizar had allegedly shot his ex-wife multiple times outside William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland. This horrifying act occurred in broad daylight, witnessed by their 9-year-old son and others. Rodriguez had recently obtained a protection order against Huizar, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
