Former Washington guard Brandon Scherff to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars

It didn’t take long for former Washington Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff to find a new home. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Scherff intends to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars Wednesday when the new NFL league year opens.

Scherff was the No. 5 overall pick in 2015 out of Iowa, spending the first seven seasons of his NFL career with Washington. Scherff played the past two seasons on the franchise tag, earning over $32 million combined, but could not reach a long-term agreement with the Commanders.

Scherff was named to the Pro Bowl five times and, in 2020, became Washington’s first first-team All-Pro selection since punter Matt Turk in the 1990s.

Scherff said multiple times over the past two seasons his preference was to remain in Washington.

As for how the Commanders will replace Scherff, expect veteran guard Wes Schweitzer to be the guy. Schweitzer has played well in relief in his two seasons in Washington.
