It didn’t take long for Chris Holtmann to find a replacement for departing assistant Mike Schrage who was named the head coach at Ohio University. According to Bill Landis of The Athletic, that position will be filled by former Vanderbilt assistant Jake Diebler.
If the last name sounds familiar, Diebler is the older brother of former Ohio State sharp-shooter Jon Diebler who is still the Big Ten record-holder for ther amount of three-point shots made in a career. Their dad, Keith Diebler, was a well-respected Ohio High School basketball coach whom both sons played for.
Diebler is no stranger to Ohio State. Besides the ties with family, he was also the video coordinator under Thad Matta from 2013-16 before moving on to coach under new Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew who was let go after last season.
Diebler will bring Ohio roots, a recruiting pedigree, and knowledge as a player of the game to Columbus. In other words, he should be a good fit for the Buckeye program.
