Jorge Masvidal's flying-knee tattoo branded "stupid" by former opponent Ben Askren

Now-retired UFC star Ben Askren has hit out at Jorge Masvidal 's new flying-knee tattoo which pays homage to their 2019 fight.

Masvidal revealed the tattoo when he weighed in on Friday morning for his UFC 272 grudge fight with former teammate Colby Covington.

The tattoo on his left shoulder shows a drawing of a man attempting a flying knee, the exact technique with which Masvidal knocked out Askren in five seconds at UFC 239.

A UFC record that will be hard to beat, it stands as the quickest knockout in promotional history after it beat Duane Ludwig's six-second finish of Jonathan Goulet in 2006.

And Askren reacted to the tattoo by writing: "What a stupid logo."

Fans have since reacted to Askren's comment on the tattoo, with one user stating they feel bad that Askren is frequently reminded of the knockout loss.

"Man I do feel kind of bad for Ben, every time there is a Masvidal interview or whatever the first thing to pop on my tv is that flying knee," they wrote.

Another added: "Damn his win over you had such a significant impact in his life that he literally tattoo’d the moment on himself."

"This is potentially the worst tattoo of all time. He still smoked you tho," a third commenter wrote.

One user compared the tattoo to Dan Henderson's brutal knockout of Michael Bisping at UFC 100, in which he made the flying elbow he landed as his signature logo.

"That's kinda like when Hendo made his logo based on the Bisping KO," the user wrote.

Askren's loss to Masvidal was the first of his professional career after he went unbeaten in 19 fights and winning titles in One Championship and Bellator.

After being traded to the UFC for longtime flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, he would retire from competition after just three fights in the promotion.

Askren was choked out by Demian Maia in the final bout of his UFC career, competing for the last time when he was knocked out by YouTube star Jake Paul in their boxing match last April.

Masvidal's career has been on an upwards trajectory ever since knocking out Askren, winning the symbolic 'BMF' title against Nate Diaz the same year.

'Gamebred' signed a lucrative new deal with the UFC ahead of his grudge fight with Covington that has made him one of the highest paid fighters in the promotion.
