Former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jan Blachowicz has weighed-in with his opinion on a potential match-up between pound-for-pound star Alex Pereira and the next potential 205-pound challenger Magomed Ankalaev.
Jan Blachowicz Backs Alex Pereira To Beat Magomed Ankalaev In Potential Fight
Jan Blachowicz is a man who knows a thing or two about MMA. The former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion has shared the octagon with several elite fighters, as well as being a former champion at 205-pounds.
Two men he has shared the ring with are Israel Adesanya, and pound-for-pound UFC star Alex Pereira. The later drew with Blachowicz and now holds the UFC Light-Heavyweight Title, and is widely regarded as one of the best fighters on the UFC roster right now.
Looking at the 205-pound division right now, Pereira is obviously the best, with a few quality contenders looking at their shot at the title. One of those men is Mahomed Ankalaev, who is supremely confident that he has the skillset required to dethrone Alex Pereira.
There has been a lot of talk that Pereira vs Ankalaev will happen in the first four months of 2025, but former champion Jan Blachowicz isn’t convinced that the challenger has any real chance of beating ‘Poatan’.
Blachowicz believes Ankalaev could be in for a rude awakening if the fight is made, if indeed he steps foot in the cage with the Brazilian MMA phenom.
Jan Blachowicz: ‘He Will Lose The Fight’
Should a fight between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev get made, the best UFC betting sites in the UK would heavily favour ‘Poatan’ to get the job done.
Former UFC champion Jan Blachowicz is in total agreement, believing that Pereira would be far too strong for Ankalaev in a proposed match-up. That being said, ‘Polish Power’ does rate his former rival highly, but just can’t see him coming out on top against the in-form and flying Alex Pereira.
“If Ankalaev will fight like last fight with Aleksandar Rakic, he will lose the fight. So, he needs to do something more.
“He is a good fighter, but it’s not enough for Pereira in this kind of style. He needs to change, he has to believe in what he’s doing, I don’t think he believes, he just wants to win the fight, but don’t take too much punches, he’s very careful. This is what he’s doing. I think this kind of way with Pereira, will not work,” Blachowicz revealed in a recent interview with Home of Fight.
Time will tell what happens in a match-up between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev. For now, the fight is yet to be made, but you can guarantee that UFC President Dana White has something in the works for ‘Poatan’ early in 2025.
