Former Trump Attorney Seeks Law License Reactivation For Legal Battles

Habba, lawyer of former U.S. President Trump, departs outside Trump Tower in New York

Former Trump attorney John Eastman is seeking to regain his law license in order to represent Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene in a political speech dispute and to address mounting legal expenses stemming from his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Eastman, who faces charges related to his actions surrounding the election, is currently unable to practice law following a recent disciplinary decision in California.

In a court filing, Eastman revealed that he already owes over $1 million to his legal team and anticipates potential legal costs exceeding $3 million, even if he is cleared of charges in the Georgia election subversion case where he is a defendant alongside former President Donald Trump.

Eastman's legal troubles intensified when a judge recommended his disbarment due to his role in promoting false election information and attempting to influence then-Vice President Mike Pence to block the transfer of power to President Joe Biden.

Despite these challenges, Eastman is appealing the decision that led to his inactive law license, citing the financial impact on his ability to defend himself in ongoing legal proceedings.

Eastman's legal representation extends beyond his work with Trump, as he has taken on clients such as Gaetz and Greene, as well as the Colorado Republican Party, in various legal matters.

His clients have expressed support for him, emphasizing their right to choose their legal counsel and affirming their trust in Eastman's abilities.

The California disciplinary judge has yet to rule on Eastman's request to reactivate his law license, with the state bar prosecutor having additional time to respond.

Eastman's legal battles and efforts to resume his legal practice underscore the complex legal landscape surrounding the aftermath of the 2020 election and the ongoing repercussions for those involved.
