Frank Lampard has been sacked as Everton manager. News of the 44-year-old's departure emerged on Monday afternoon, two days after a defeat at fellow strugglers West Ham United that left the Toffees second from bottom of the Premier League.
With a week's break before the return of the Premier League due to the FA Cup fourth-round fixtures that are set to take place on the weekend, it means that Everton have time to appoint their new manager before they take on Tottenham's north London rivals Arsenal at Goodison Park on February 4.
One potential managerial appointment as the replacement for Lampard is former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentinian had previously been linked with a return to north London, but there is a possibility he could be joining Everton instead.

SkyBet has placed 20/1 odds for Pochettino to take the realm as the next Everton manager following Lampard's sacking. Former Burnley manager Sean Dyche is currently the bookies' favourite to land the role.
News of Lampard's departure comes after reports that Spurs could be dealing with their own managerial exit. Conte ’s contract runs out at the end of the current campaign, though Spurs have the option to extend it for a further 12 months.
However, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Italian will depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the close of the current campaign.
Di Marzio told his ‘ L’Originale ‘ program on Sky Sports: "The news I can tell you with certainty is that Antonio Conte will leave Tottenham at the end of the season."
Pochettino had been tipped with a return to Spurs after Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo's exits from the club. But, with Everton potentially shortlisting Pochettino, the Lillywhites could lose out on a possible return of the Argentine in the summer.
