A former Tottenham icon has questioned the Premier League's decision to postpone the game week 7 schedule this weekend following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen passed away peacefully on Thursday at Balmoral castle. Her tragic death prompted the beginning of a 12-day mourning period across the UK. With that in mind, the Premier League have decided to postpone this weekend's games to pay respect to Her Majesty.
The Premier League's official website statement said: "At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend's Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening's game."

Richard Masters, the Premier League's Chief Executive, said: "We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty's long and unwavering service to our country. As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication. "This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing."
The Premier League confirmed that further updates regarding fixtures during the mourning period would be provided in due course.
It is understood that next weekend's games are in serious jeopardy due to the State's funeral for Her Majesty likely to take place next Sunday or Monday. This would mean mass Police will be needed to hold such a historical event, leaving limited numbers available for the football weekend.
This all means that there is a real possibility that, barring UEFA competition's in the midweek, supporters will not be able to see their sides in domestic action now until after the upcoming International break. It's a decision that has drawn strong criticism from the likes of Piers Morgan and Gary Neville.
Peter Crouch has also weighed in with his opinion. He believes Masters and the footballing organisations were wrong to conduct things the way they have with Rugby League and Cricket set to go ahead this weekend at the expense of the beautiful game.
He tweeted: 'I know it's only a game, and some things are much bigger but imagine all our games went ahead this weekend. Black armbands, silences observed, national anthem, Royal band playing etc to the millions around the world watching? Isn't that a better send off?'
