A former Tory MSP has said he wants Labour to win a majority at the next general election.
Adam Tomkins, a regional list MSP for Glasgow between 2016 and 2021, said "it's clear that we need a change of government".
He said he would like to "like to see a Starmer administration with a small majority" because the Tories need a period in opposition to find a sense of direction.
He also said he didn't believe Labour would find it easier to solve the country's economic problems than the Conservatives.
The 53-year-old told the Holyrood Sources podcast: "The issues that the British economy faces are deep and profound and a Labour government is not going to find it any easier to solve them than the current Conservative government.
"But it's clear that we need a change of government. The Conservative party needs a period in opposition to figure out where it's going and what it wants to try and achieve next.
"And I think all of that is going to happen in 2024. And I would like to see a Starmer administration with a small majority."
Tomkins was a leading unionist campaigner in the 2014 independence referendum. He also served in the Scottish Conservatives' shadow cabinet.
His comments come after a poll showed that Labour could gain 23 seats from the SNP at the next general election.
The poll showed that Labour would dominate in the central belt, winning back many seats it lost in 2015.
Among these was the seat of deputy SNP Westminster leader Mhairi Black.
