Former Top of the Pops presenter Sarah Cawood has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Once noted for her bright red hair during her time presenting kids TV show Live & Kicking, Sarah is now sharing her health story and a strong message as she undergoes treatment.
The mum of two was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer in August. She told The Sun : "It was my first ever routine mammogram and I got a letter back saying they couldn’t give me my screening result back yet. So I had another mammogram and an ultrasound and then they said ‘We’re going to biopsy you’. That’s where they take a bit of tissue from your boob.”
In an upbeat sounding interview, the now 50-year-old says that she was later told that the lump in her breast was not just a cyst and feared the worst, worrying that it could be an aggressive form. Sarah lives with her husband Andy Merry and their son and daughter Hunter, ten, and Autumn, nine, according to the Mirror.

Sarah recalls: “I did the lying in bed at night, not watching my children grow up thing. I always think cancer seems like a slow death. It’s like being chucked out of the party early.”
Revealing that she had gone to find out the results with her husband, she was relieved to find out that the cancer wasn't an aggressive form. "Nobody cried, it wasn’t very dramatic," she said. "It’s just a lumpectomy, radio-therapy, then a drug called Tamoxifen, which is a hormone blocker, for five to ten years.”
Following her diagnosis, Sarah has had to come off HRT, which she takes for the menopause, and has said that she is feeling the effect of it. While she said that her mood appears to be OK, she finds her brain fog "annoying" and that she says has forgotten her daughter's name twice.
Sarah also spoke about how she wished she had shown off her breats more when she was younger but adds, she's no regrets. She is quoted as saying: “Back then, the way to really get your profile built up was to do lads’ mags shoots and I didn’t," she said. "Partly because of Adam [her then boyfriend Bluetones guitarist Adam Devlin,] and partly out of some weird sense of propriety. Like, I’m not going to get my boobs out to get ahead. Why the f * * * not? My boobs were epic. They still are."
Adding that they were the "best boobs", she quipped that she "should have got them out... I could be presenting Strictly Come Dancing now," she quipped. "But that didn’t happen and I don’t have any regrets."
